Another oak gall from Mary, SC

Posted on |

Is this a type of fungus growing on an oak in dry, sandy soil?

Hi Mary,

not a fungus, this is another type of oak gall on Quercus margaretta. I do not know what caused this to form, but they are not at all uncommon. Search Google images for ‘oak galls’ and you may find a similar one.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Ph.D., Botanist, SCNPS
