Amianthium muscitoxicum from Robbie, South Carolina

Posted on |

I live in Denmark, SC and came across this plant in a low area on my property.
Never seen it before, thought it might be a bottle brush plant but I believe that to be
a shrub. Tried to ID on Google images and came back with sweet grass….didn’t think that was correct.

Hi Robbie,

this looks like a plant called Fly-poison, Amianthium muscitoxicum. It is a nice native plant often placed in the lily family. Look up information under this name because I believe it can be toxic, but it is a fine native wildflower nevertheless.  This is a very nice clump!

Sincerely,
