A clematis from Rus in South Carolina

We have this bushy vine that comes back year after year. It grows in full sun on a garden fence and has dark green leaves that are basically spade to heart shaped and group in threes. Three pictures included. It has white flowers that come on in the late summer early fall, I think. thanks for the help, Rus

Rus,

your vine is Clematis terniflora DC., the sweet autumn virginsbower, a fall-blooming clematis vine.  It is not native, and is often considered to be invasive and rather hard to control.  It is attractive when it is all covered with flowers, but it can cover and choke out other plants.  You can find out more about it here: http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=CLTE4  It has also been called Clematis dioscoreifolia.
