A budding tree from Kevin in sc

30 inches tall. Stem like a tree sapling

Hi Kevin,

there are two possibilities – either one of the hickories, Carya sp., or a buckeye, Aesculus sp. When the leaves come out a bit more it will be easy to distinguish them – Aesculus has leaflets arranged like fingers on a palm/hand, and Carya has leaflets attached to an axis as on a feather.  I think it is more likely the hickory.
