Upstate Work Day at Blackwell Heritage Preserve
January 14 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Event Navigation
Join us for a privet pull this Saturday from 9-12 at the Blackwell Heritage Preserve!
On Saturday, January 14th, join fellow native plant lovers as we pull privet at the Blackwell Heritage Preserve outside of Travelers Rest. Sponsored jointly by SCNPS and Naturaland Trust, this is the first workday of the New Year, and the weather promises to be perfect for it!
Blackwell’s seepages and streams provide habitat for the federally endangered bunched arrowhead (Sagittaria fasciculata). Approximately 75 percent of the preserve is wetlands, and more than ten acres can be accessed only by wading the Enoree River!
While we won’t be braving the Enoree this weekend, we do suggest wearing long sleeves, long pants, and shoes/boots that can handle damp woods. If you’ve got a shovel or a mattock, bring it along. If you don’t, no worries! You can pull up a lot of privet without a tool, so come on ahead and join us.
We’ll be gathering in the field inside the gate, where there will be ample parking. At 9 AM we’ll go down to the woods to work.
Do feel free to come late or leave early. If you arrive late, make your own way down to the woods and look for our groups. We will finish up by noon.
