September Upstate Monthly Meeting – A Guide to the Wildflowers of South Carolina

September 20, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Our speaker for September’s program is Dr. Patrick McMillan, who is a well-known naturalist, biologist, and educator.  He was the host, co-creator, and writer for the award-winning ETV nature program Expeditions with Patrick McMillan. He earned his B.S in Biology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and his Ph. D. in Biological Sciences from Clemson University. Dr. McMillan’s research has been featured in National Wildlife and South Carolina Wildlife magazines and in newspaper articles.  He was the former Director of the South Carolina Botanical Garden in Clemson. He also worked as a consultant and ecologist for several organizations including UNC-Chapel Hill and Fairchild Tropical Gardens. He was the curator of the North Carolina State Museum of Natural Sciences and an eighth-grade math and science teacher.  More recently, he was the Director of Heronswood Garden in Kingston, Washington.

We are excited about his upcoming presentation, “A Guide to the Wildflowers of South Carolina, Three Lifetimes of Experience Exploring and Conserving SC’s Flora”.  Dr. McMillan will give you an overview of the new book, A Guide to the Wildflowers of South Carolina, that he authored with Richard Porcher, Jr. and Douglas Rayner, and highlight our state’s most significant rare plants.
