Parks Mill Rocky Shoals Spiderlily Preservation Site: Annual Open House
May 20 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
In July of 2016, the South Carolina Native Plant Society (SCNPS), Naturaland Trust (NT), and Upper Savannah Land Trust (USLT) joined resources to protect an historic gristmill and a creek full of Rocky Shoals Spiderlilies (Hymenocallis coronaria) on 13 acres of land/creek-bed on Stevens Creek near Plum Branch, SC. The site is owned by NT, managed and operated by the SCNPS, and protected in perpetuity by conservation easement held by the USLT.
In addition to playing host to a wonderful population of the rare native Rocky Shoals Spiderlily, the site also boasts a reasonably well preserved late 19th-century water-powered grist mill (which continues to be improved upon, week-by-week!).
Since 2016, we have been hosting public open house events during the expected peak flowering period for the Lily. At these events the public is invited to come see the beautiful lily population in the Creek, as well as the gristmill complex. Guides will be available to tour the site and to answer questions.
