Date/Time: Tuesday, April 18, 6:30 PM

Location: The Citadel’s Duckett Hall Biology Auditorium
2 Jones Ave, Charleston, SC 29403

Description: Join Dr. Richard Porcher for an evening of learning about some of the unique flora and special habitats found in South Carolina. Dr. Porcher will discuss his recent publication, Wildflowers of South Carolina (2022) and give us a sneak peak of a new book under development, A Guide to Saving South Carolina’s Rare, Native Wildflowers. As part of the lecture, we will also hear about Dr. Porcher’s efforts to restore a Carolina bay, described as “geological formations of unknown origin that form shallow depressions in sandy coastal soil mainly on the South Atlantic Coastal Plain Province of North America.” This will be a great preview to this month’s field trip later in the week to visit Dr. Porcher’s Pocotaligo Carolina Bay. We will have a limited number of Dr. Porcher’s book for sale at the lecture and he has graciously agreed to sign books at the lecture. So, plan to purchase one or bring your copy to get signed!

Tasty snacks will be provided after the lecture (BYO non-alcoholic beverage or water bottle). We will meet in our previous location in The Citadel’s Duckett Hall Biology Auditorium, 2 Jones Ave, Charleston, SC 29403. Free parking is available after 5:00 PM in the parking lot south of Richardson Street, accessible from Mims Ave. Enter Duckett Hall from Jones Ave and take your first left from the stairwell into the Biology Auditorium.
