Lowcountry Field Trip: Stono Preserve

Our May speaker, Professor Dan McGlinn, will be leading a field trip to the College of Charleston’s Stono Preserve, a 981-acre property along the Stono River and the Intercoastal Waterway.

Field Trip Description: We will meet at the College of Charleston’s Stono Preserve where we hike through several different habitats including a rice impoundment, freshwater ponds, mixed-hard wood forests, isolated wetlands, and pine savannas. We will pay special attention to the plant and animal ecology along our walk. The terrain will be mostly flat and participants are encouraged to wear clothing appropriate for hot and buggy conditions.
