Lowcountry Field Trip: Hobcaw Barony: The Carbon and Climate Benefits of Managing Longleaf Pine Forests
February 19, 2022 @ 9:15 am - 11:30 am
Event Navigation
Trip Leader: Dr. Tom O’Halloran, Assistant Professor in the Forestry and Environmental Conservation Department of Clemson University
Date/Time: Saturday, February 19th, 9:15-11:30 AM
Location: 22 Hobcaw Rd, Georgetown, SC 29440
Details: Join Professor Tom O’Halloran, stationed at the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science, for a drive through historic Hobcaw Barony to learn about his research on carbon measurements and longleaf forests. We’ll stop and view atmospheric tower installations in 2 different aged longleaf stands, see effects of controlled burning, spend some time botanizing, and see some of Hobcaw’s historic buildings. This field trip will be limited in number and will require some carpooling on-site to reach forest stands. To register and receive further details, contact Colette DeGarady ([email protected]).
