A Winter Creeper from Tate in SC

This plant is growing at the base of 3 or 4 pine trees in my yard. We live in Greenwood SC. These pictures were taken the first week of April, 2014.

Hi Tate,

your plant is Euonymus fortunei, the Winter creeper.  It is commonly planted, but can sometimes get out of hand and spread. It can be viny or shaped like a shrub.  In some states it is considered to be a  pest species because it can climb as well as spread into large areas once it is established.   It is not native to North America..

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven R. Hill, Botanist; SCNPS
