Probable Aureolaria from Diane, SC

Posted on |

Hi, Dr. Hill,
This plant is growing in a hardwood tree-area on a slope in the Fall Line area. It was along a path, so might get a little sun. I took this photo on March 31. I’m attaching additional pictures of the leaf and stem.
Thank you.

Hi Diane,

this is somewhat difficult at this stage, but my best guess is that it is Aureolaria virginica, one of the yellow false foxglove species.  It fits the characters at this stage, but I can only be sure when it flowers.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
