Myrica cerifera from John, SC

Posted on |

It is growing all throughout a wooded bushy area next to a freshwater lagoon in Hilton Head
It can get pretty large and woody and spreads with runners under the pine straw. Not sure if it flowers.

Hi John,

this is a common native shrub in the coastal plain, known as wax myrtle, Myrica cerifera. The plant generally has a pleasant sweet resinous aroma when bruised.

Sincerely,

Steven Hill, Ph.D., Botanist  SCNPS
