Korean or Japanese clover from Scott, SC

Posted on |

This plant is taking over my lawn. It is about the same height of my grass. Sodded turf 5 years ago and now it’s covering a large area of my lawn. The dark green appearance of the grass field looks ok from afar but close up the problem is apparent.

Hi Scott,

this is Korean or Japanese clover, Kummerowia.  It fixes nitrogen, so it adds nitrogen to a lawn, and it is a legume. Some people want it in their lawn, some not. You may want to look it up on the Internet for different opinions.  It is not native and is very common.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
