An invader from Amanda, SC

Posted on |

This plant is growing as a small tree or bush in a park in Greenville, SC. It has small ovate leaves that may be complex. It has a brownish pink stem with small hairs.

Hi Amanda,

this, I’m afraid, is an invasive non-native shrub called privet,  Ligustrum vulgare or a close relative.  Many of these are crowding out our native species and should be eradicated.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven R. Hill, Botanist  SCNPS
