An interesting Eriogonum from Mary, SC

Posted on |

Are these first two one and the same flower/plant; if so, what is it, grown on dry, sandy soil?

Hi Mary,

it’s been years since I’ve seen this plant, a very interesting one. It is Eriogonum tomentosum, wild buckwheat, our only member of a very large genus centered in the Intermountain West area, Utah Nevada and so on. It is local only in the sandhills region, and all of the 3 pictures you sent were of this plant.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
