Indian Pink from Mike , South Carolina

This photo was taken on 5-18-17 in the Long Cane Scenic area in McCormick/ Abbeville, SC area. It is approximately 12 ” tall and appears randomly throughout the area.
Scene 1 shows the yellow color better than the flash photo of scene 2.

Hi Mike,

your wildflower is a favorite of mine, Indian pink, Spigelia marilandica.  It was first discovered in Maryland in colonial times, but has been extinct there for hundreds of years, probably from tobacco farming’s clearing of forests.
