Dogbane from Clay in SC

Posted on |

Very symmetrical leaves, when the stem was broken on one of the plants was broken, a white, foamy substance came out.

Hi Clay,

this appears to be common dogbane, Apocynum cannabinum.  They resemble milkweeds but have smaller white flowers and the leaves are somewhat shorter.  Both have milky sap.  This can be poisonous if eaten.
