An invasive honeysuckle from Larry – Illinois

Posted on |

This is a common bush/shrub type plant with a woody stalk found along park trails. It stays green into winter, and has somewhat sparse red berries.

Hi Larry,

This is Lonicera maackii – a common bush honeysuckle, native to Asia.  It is a terribly invasive plant in Illinois crowding out many native species, and spread by birds.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
