A yucca from LANA

Posted on |

IVE SEEN THIS PLANT GROWING IN MANY YARDS AND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

Lana,

I assume you are in South Carolina?  This is certainly a Yucca.  I do not see a trunk, but it doesn’t look like the commonly seen Yucca filamentosa or Y. flaccida, because the leaves do not have fibers on their margins.  Also, the leaf margins do not appear to be spinulose-serrate, so we would be left with Yucca gloriosa, or a cultivated species not in our flora list.  That’s the best I can do.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist SCNPS
